We connect science, economy and society

Mit strategischer Begleitung entlang des gesamten Innovationsprozesses beschleunigt JenaInnovation den Transfer und positioniert Jena als führenden Innovationsstandort.

Support across the entire innovation pathway

Innovation and transfer are diverse – as are the ways in which excellent research translates into impact. JENAINNOVATION accompanies initiatives from early exploration through to realization:

  • Research–industry partnerships
  • Application-driven pilot environments and real-world labs
  • Skills development and innovation methodologies
  • Deep-tech spin-offs and venture development
  • Validation, proof-of-concept and prototyping
  • Tailored mentoring and structured guidance

Our focus

1/4

Photonics and Medical Diagnostics

The science of light – and how light particles can be used technologically – has a long tradition in Jena. It forms the basis for high-precision sensor technology, modern imaging techniques and innovative methods of medical diagnostics. At the same time, innovations at the interface between optics, biotechnology and clinical application are particularly complex and subject to strict regulatory requirements.

JENAINNOVATION specifically focuses on the transition from photonics research through prototype development to practical application. The focus lies both on innovations in photonics and optics themselves and on their use in medical diagnostics and clinical practice. Together with industry, research and clinical partners, we accelerate the transfer of these technologies into application.
2/4

Inflammation Research and Microbiome Technologies

Research into inflammatory diseases and the microbiome – meaning all the microorganisms living in the human body – is one of Jena’s most internationally recognised scientific strengths. New insights into immune responses and microbial ecosystems open up significant opportunities for diagnostics and therapies, particularly in the treatment of complex infectious diseases and chronic conditions.

JENAINNOVATION specifically supports the translation of this research into clinical applications. To this end, we promote close collaboration between research institutes, Jena University Hospital and regional biotechnology companies.
3/4

Innovative Materials and Resource Efficiency

Innovative materials are key drivers of resource-efficient production, sustainable chemistry and modern energy storage technologies. New approaches in materials science open up significant opportunities for energy, environmental and production technologies – yet their utilisation is often hindered by the challenging transition from laboratory research to practical application.

JENAINNOVATION specifically supports the transfer of such developments into practice. To this end, we strengthen collaboration between researchers, companies and other partners, facilitate access to infrastructure and support material innovations from validation through to market readiness.
4/4

Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence

Almost every scientific and technological development today is shaped by digital technologies and artificial intelligence. They enable new forms of data analysis, automated processes and powerful simulation models. Numerous approaches to data-driven research, machine learning and digital applications are continuously emerging.

JENAINNOVATION therefore specifically promotes the use of digital and AI-based methods – both as an independent field of innovation and as a unifying cross-cutting technology. This significantly accelerates data analysis, simulation and the development of new solutions in photonics, materials research and the life sciences.
